Just One More Please

A few weeks ago, I was privileged to photograph the coming of age of a Jewish teen. In other words, I photographed a Bar Mitzvah. This festive event was attended by those who came from near and far. His friends cheered him on while his family watched in awe. In the blink of an eye, he who was once a boy is now a man. And as always with events like this, it's a treasure to have photos documenting the celebration.

With the passage of time stealing memories, I'm so thankful to have a camera in hand capturing the moments of soon-to-be times gone by. I write this entry with sadness, for the passage of time also stole a life of one who came from afar to attend this wonderful event. I took extra time editing this individual's photos. He captured my heart at the party, constantly requesting, "Just one more photo please."

(Did he know?) We teased each other, "This one is going to cost you more!"

So I say to you, be in the moment. Inhale it. Lather yourself with the essence of life that surrounds you. Make a mental memory and always have a camera (or someone who has one) nearby. For when the passage of time steals yet another of our loved ones, you will at least have a keepsake that keeps on giving.

Stuck In A Blog

This morning I actually googled how to blog. Since this is my first attempt at such a thing, it only seemed right that I learn how to do it the right way or at least get other people's opinion on how to write one. Like most other things in life that I'm unsure of, I "google" it (from the computer and my friends). Lately I've been "googling" my friends who just happen to be photographers. How many lenses do you own and which ones? You'd be amazed at how many lenses there are on the market each with their own personality. Some lenses like to be in your face and others prefer to be way back, like a turtle who sticks it's neck out reaching for food (telephoto). After purchasing three lenses last week, I've narrowed my selection down to one which will be a nice addition to the three I already own. Somehow those lenses give me different perspectives on the same thing. If only I could see life from different points of view without the need of those lenses. If only we all could do that, see how someone else views the world. Perhaps then I would not have to google as much. Perhaps that's what blogs are for. Perhaps that's what photographs do.

This Land Is My Land

Today I learned two things: 1) the importance for properly watermarking one's photos and 2) that fireworks won't get launched in the rain. For the first time ever that I can remember, there were no fireworks dazzling the skies due to rain. There were no ooohh's and ahhhhh's from the crowds, no white clouds lingering behind cascading streams of glory, no star spangles or banner waves of golden grain. I, like many of my friends on Facebook, watched those shooting stars from the comfort of a cool, dry, and comfortable living room via the good old boob tube. How important are fireworks on the 4th of July? If you think about it, just as important as watermarking. Fireworks, in a weird way, are our country's watermark. It says, "Hey, this day is ours and we are going to make sure everyone knows it." So today, I too became independent. I claimed my photos. This is my territory. Even if I didn't shoot a rocket into the air. It's a day to celebrate!

Watermarking On A Watery Day

It's raining buckets. No joke! The kiddie pool is over flowing and it doesn't look like I'm going to see blue sky for days. Fireworks will have to wait another year and parties taken indoors. There is no better day to learn how to watermark my photos than on a watery day like today. So as the deluge keeps delivering, so must I. Neil Young is keeping me company. "Old man take a look at my life. I'm a lot like you...."....kind of fitting for these photos. We all have stories. Do mine look like yours?

Molasses

I feel like I'm working at a snail's pace. There are so many bells and whistles on here. Creating a web site can be quite the undertaking, especially by someone who barely knows what she's doing (that would be me). Now I know why I never became a web programmer. But I am not going to throw in the towel or wave a white flag, at least not just yet (hopefully never). I have a vision and with time (lots of time) and patience(lots and lots of patience), my vision will become a reality. Do you see things changing? Morphing into something? At this point i'm not sure what, other than I will know it when I see it. Lots of photos to still download and watermark. Lots of reaching out to do so I can be found on the internet without diving too far deep into the virtual world. Like I said, bells and whistles and I say this with a smile. Keep sharing your thoughts. I relish the feedback. Wishing you many 'kodak' moments in your day. Make a mental memory if you don't have a camera in hand. :)

Welcome To My World!

As they say in the South, Hey Y'all!

This website has been a labor of love and like most wondrous things in life, it has taken many moons to create. As I suspected, there are numerous things to do when building a website. Which photos do I upload? Where do I place the logo? What color should I choose for the borders or even the buttons? So many options! This is worse than being in a shoe store and almost as bad as being in a paint shop where you're surrounded by thousands of various shades of colored strips. Who knew there were so many blues to choose from! So from time to time you will see these pages magically change and then like a chameleon, change again. It's a work in progress much like me. Please feel free to share your thoughts about the photos or even the page layouts. I am open and eager to hear what you think/feel. Thank you for visiting and enjoy.
